What have you been wearing on stage? Anything new you've been liking?

DESIREE (@desiree_rsa)
My go to fits for stage are a combination of bold yet comfortable. I like matching sets, pops of colour and a variety of textures. I have always enjoyed fashion a lot from a young age. I am not afraid to try different styles. Sometimes I wear something tight and cunt while other times I enjoy wearing more baggy ensembles. •

Do you collaborate with anyone? A stylist? A friend?

DESIREE
I used to collaborate with a stylist briefly but I quickly found that I enjoy styling myself. It’s really a fun process where I get to put together outfits that are inspired by runway shows I’ve been obsessing over. I have always watched fashion shows from a very young age so it comes naturally to me at this point.

Do you make any special pieces?

DESIREE
I do customise pieces on special occasions. I am really into upcycling. It’s such a cool way to reduce waste and ensures that my outfits look unique. For special occasions sure.

Where do you find stage clothes? Any fav shops?

DESIREE
I mainly shop from thrift stores. Johannesburg has so many hidden gems! There’s a place called ‘Dunusa’ which literally means ‘bend over’. It’s essentially a street full of various vendors selling thrifted items in large piles where you have to ‘dunusa’ so you can find items you like. At times I also like to spoil myself with designer pieces. I have been enjoying brands like The Attico, Orseund Iris and South African brands like Rich Mnisi, Mmuso Maxwell & Wanda Lephoto to name a few.

Where does your sense of style come from? Any special sources of inspiration?

DESIREE
I discovered house music through my obsession with runway shows when I was a kid, so I’ve been following fashion for two decades now. Naturally, this has inspired my style immensely. I am also really inspired by my heritage. In the BaPedi culture, we tend to wear a lot of colour which is inspiring as the norm is to wear neutral colours.
